Today there was a requirement for adding dropdown list in one excel document. Then google search has given the following link that solved my problem. I realised that there is a lot to learn in excel.
Create a drop-down list from a range of cells - Excel - Microsoft Office Online
Today one of my office mate comes to me and shown me that in his internet explorer now every excel file opens in browser instead of excel. I have looked every option in internet explorer but could not find a option for this. I have reset the browser settings but it could not solve the problem. Finally I googled about it and find the solution on following link-
How to configure Internet Explorer to open Office documents in the appropriate Office program instead of in Internet Explorer
Today I have read a very nice article about JavaFX, in which the author had told about the history of Java and JavaFX an then tried to conclude about the future of JavaFX.
Have a look -
Will JavaFX become a viable RIA technology?

Finally I am back to Delhi after 10 days. I have visited Mathura once more in past when I was just 12 years old with my father so some memories were still there in my mind. I was wishing to see some places this time also. It was a busy tour but anyhow I have managed to visit some places at Mathura in one fine evening with colleague Sandeep . First we have gone to Vishram Ghat which is bank of river Yamuna. I was shocked to see the condition of Yamuna, the water was all black coloured due to garbage. I have seen same here at Delhi but honestly I was not hoping for the same at Mathura. Government should do something to clean our old and holy rivers like Yamuna. To see the boats with colourfull patters were very good feeling at Vishram Ghat. After that we have gone to see the temple Dwarikadheesh which was very near to Vishram Ghat. The temple was good but it was having a lot of crowd because when we have entered there it was daily aarti (worship) time. The temple location itself is very busy with a lot of crowd on road. After Dwarikadheesh temple we have gone to the famous Shri Krishna Janmasthan. We have faced some problem into entry of this temple because of heavy checking by police and we have to deposit our items including mobile phones at reception. But after entering the place it was a delightful watch. The area is very big so even after a lot of crowd it did not feel crowdy place. We have spent around one hour there and although we were wishing more to stay there but we have to move because it was very late and we wanted to cover one more site. So after inquiring from local people we have decided to go to Geeta Mandir. When we reach there is was already dark so we could not view it properly but it was a nice place. There were very few people there and I hope that next time whenever I go to Mathura I will go there in day time.
That was the end of our Mathura site seeing. And for the purpose of my this visit to Mathura as I have discussed in previous post it was successful. A lot of things have been learned by watching the software application being used live which I think will not possible while sitting and developing it in office.

Although I have gone to many official tours but this one is special. It is because till now all of my tours are related to e-governance but this time I am here at Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) for Supply Chain Management software implementation. Drishtee where I work has just started this new business idea. It feels very good after roaming since last three years only for e-governance. I had to deal with government officials and with citizens who came to our e-governance centers for availing services on those tours. Although I enjoyed these tours as well but sometimes you need a change.
May be I will be writing more about my this visit later on. For the time being I am happy that my mobile internet is working here although it is simple GPRS. Mathura is still not EDGE enabled by my mobile provide Airtel. I wish Indian government approve 3G in India soon.

Last year I had started to learn Ruby on Rails but I could not continue it for more than one month. There was various reason for that like busy in my day job, losing interest, unable to find good and cheap web host for Rails etc. Now this week I have regained my interest but with a difference. This time I have thought that before starting to learn the framework I should learn the language first.
So I thought to learn Ruby but finally I have picked up Python because I think at present it is more popular than Ruby. May be Ruby will be the language of future but at present it has very minimal presence except barring Rails. But python had great presence in web, desktop, mobiles etc. So yesterday I have downloaded Python and started to learn it. Let me see what happens in coming days.
Today I have migrated my blog from Joomla to Wordpress. Why I have done so, I will write later on. But I am happy that this migration was automatic because of one person AZEEM KHAN. He has developed a good script for this purpose, you can found it here -
http://azeemkhan.info/2008/joomla2wordpress-import-wizard-v3/
Although this was not his original idea, you can found the details at the above link.
Thanks Azeem.
I have written my last article on July 4, 2007. Although after that on November 3, 2007 I have written that I am back after 4 months but I could not write due to some unavoidable circumstances. But now I am back with same enthusiasm as at the time of starting this website. A long time (more than 6 months) has been passed since my last article so I think it is right time to tell what have been changed since then:-
1. I am not doing Ruby on Rails any more. Not because it is bad but I think it is not for me. I am a .NET programmer at my official work and for my personal requirement I could not save time to learn Ruby on Rails. Now I am doing PHP and i like it because of simplicity. I already know ASP so it is easy to learn rather than Rails for me. There is one more reason, I like to work with SQL and while learning Rails I missed that.
2. My first Java + MySQL desktop application has been deployed at client side. It was a challenge because since last three years I am into MS technlogies. There were a lot of problems in developing this but finally everything is well. I have learned Java, Swing, MySQL, JasperReports, iReport and lot of other things.
3. Now I am working in ASP.NET 3.5 and Windows Presentation Foundation(WPF). First WPF application has been deployed.
4. After using Ubuntu for almost 4 months I am back to windows again. I liked Ubuntu a lot but the reason is that I don’t have my laptop with me any more so back to office laptop again which is by default windows.

For the last 4 months, I was absent from here. I was on a long long and very busy official tour so could not fetch time for my online activities. But now I am back and will try to write regularly.

In the last article I have written about my migration to Ubuntu from Windows. Now I have around two weeks of experience of working with Ubuntu so I think I am in a position to tell about my experience with it. My first sentence will be same as earlier - I love it. At the time of installation, I was thinking that I have to revert back to Windows in one or two weeks but now I don’t want to use Windows any more. I am not having any problem of working with Ubuntu in these two weeks. Most of the things I was doing on Windows, I am still doing the same on Ubuntu also.
Actually now I have installed Kubuntu-Desktop on it so you can say I am using Kubuntu now. Both Ubuntu and Kubuntu are same except that Ubuntu uses Gnome desktop environment and the Kbuntu uses KDE. Both are good but I like Kubuntu more because it is somewhat similar to Windows in looks so it is easier for me to use in a better way. At present I am using the following software on my (K)Ubuntu.
| OpenOffice |
(MS Office replacement) |
| Skype |
(Voice and Text Chat same as on Windows) |
| Kopete |
(Yahoo Messenger and MSN Messenger replacement) |
| Firefox |
(I have not used Internet Explorer on Windows since Firefox 0.9) |
| Kontact |
(On Windows I was using Thunderbird but I like Kontact more) |
| Amarok |
(Windows Media Player / Real Player replacement) |
| KPDF |
(Adobe Acrobat Reader replacement) |
| GNOchm |
(Chm help viewer) |
| GIMP |
(Adobe Photoshop / Paint.NET replacement) |
| K3b |
(CD Burning software) |
| Ark |
(WinZip / 7-zip replacement) |
| KNotes |
(Sticky notes on desktop) |
At present I can’t remember any more but it can be seen that I am not facing a single limitation for doing my usual work as I was doing earlier on Windows. But the biggest problem was to use Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server as I am a .NET programmer. I don’t know there is any solution or not but now I don’t want to find any solution for this problem. I have decided to migrate to Java from .NET (Ubuntu is not the only reason for this. I will write in future about this.) and for this purpose I have installed following on my (K)Ubuntu.
Eclipse
Netbeans
MySQL
I have faced some minor problems but most of them are solved by now. I will write in future articles about them.
P.S. - Ubuntu has already given me one achievement, I have received first comment on my website in any article. And it was my previous article regarding Ubuntu.
